I have noticed that Drag and Drop does not work anymore in my HP ENVY Ultra book 4. This means that I cannot load files by simply “throwing” them directly into the open program window. Then I figured out I can’t drag and drop files to other folders or emails or anything for one specific region that is win 8. Since I move to Windows 8 from Windows 7 Drag and Drop does not work. At last I figured that the one and only culprit is User Account Control or UAC.
In order to able drag and Drop in Windows 8 you have to turn out User Account Control or UAC.
How to fully disable UAC on Windows 8
Most standard way to turn off User Account Control from the Control Panel. But if you do that only stop pop-ups that ask if you are unsure of this or that. So regain full control over the operating system and the function Drag and Drop, it is necessary to browse in the Windows registry to disable UAC completely
- Go to Run > then type: regedit (then press enter).
The windows registry editor will now open.
Follow this route through the registry editor:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Policies > System
- Then Find this Key EnableLUA, Double Click on it and change the Value data from 1 to 0.
Windows 8 Solution Drag and Drop Not Working
After pressing OK you’ll notice in the task bar a message pops up saying UAC is now disabled and a restart is required.
Bingo you done it.
